    "The Lighthouse (working title)" by elise lastname

    Use American dialect, and the serial comma.
    Story headline is "A story"

    [This is my very very bare bones concept for a game about a woman who lives in and maintains a lighthouse. I want to focus on her emotional journey over the course of the game as she (the player) has to navigate paranormal goings on at the lighthouse that remind her of her personal baggage. There will be rooms where there shouldn't be rooms (house of leaves style), spectres of people she cares about, moving objects, a strange creature howling outside, etc.]

    The player is in the First Floor. The description is "You are in your pajamas, an old college pullover and sweatpants. When you woke to the howling, you put on your workboots and pulled on a jacket. Your long gray hair is pulled up into a haphazard knot."

    The jacket is a wearable object. The player is wearing the jacket.

    When play begins:
    	say "You are Paloma Clarke, keeper of the Eidothea Isle Lighthouse, and tonight was supposed to be another monotonous end to a monotonous day. Unfortunately, something is howling outside, louder than the storm winds and the thunder, and it won't let you sleep."

    The First Floor is a room. The description is "[if the Outside the Front Door is unvisited] You stand in the slightly cramped room that houses all your going-out gear and all the unopened packages you've recieved recently that shall remain unopened. The howling seems to be coming from outside somewhere. The front door is to the west. [otherwise] You stand in the slightly cramped room that houses all your going-out gear and all the unopened packages you've recieved recently that shall remain unopened. The front door is to the west."

    The Oustide the Front Door is a room. The Outside the Front Door is west of the First Floor. The description is "[if the Outside the Front Door is unvisited] The howling is louder out here, even above the sounds of the raging storm. You're safe under the awning above your door, but you could probably do with an umbrella. It's hard to see through the heavy rain, but the light from the lighthouse provides some clarity. It sounds like the howling is coming from further west, towards the rocky beach. [otherwise] The storm rages on, but you find safety under the awning. It's hard to see through the heavy rain, but the light from the lighthouse provides some clarity. Further west is the rocky beach."

    The stand is a container. The stand is in the Outside the Front Door. The printed name is "umbrella stand". "[if player has yellow umbrella] To the left of the door sits an umbrella stand. [otherwise] To the left of the door sits an umbrella stand with a bright yellow umbrella sticking out of it."

    The yellow umbrella is an object. The yellow umbrella is inside the stand. Understand "umbrella" as yellow umbrella.

    The Beach is a room. The Beach is west of the Outside the Front Door. The description is "To call it a beach is a bit of a stretch. There's barely any sand among the craggly rocks, and what little sand there is has a dark, grayish color. Not exactly the nicest place to watch the ocean, but the unattractiveness of the place comforts you, in a strange way. You stand at the edge of the grass before the beach, not wanting to brave the slippery rocks."

    The creature is an object. The creature is in the Beach. "On the sand lays the source of the howling. A strange creature writhing in pain."

    instead of examining the creature:
    	say "It's a horrible thing, all bones and pale white skin, stark against the dark sand. It's a strange mix of human and animal, and it keens and howls in despair. You feel a sort of kinship with it.

    	As you approach it looks up at you, and it's eyes emit a strange yellow glow. At the moment you make eye contact a wave crashes violently onto the beach. The water receeds, and the creature is gone.";
    	now the creature is nowhere

    [fun fact: this is (extremely loosely) inspired by a thing i saw on the beach in oregon! i was there with my family, and when i looked out at the waves, i thought i saw a person's head and shoulders sticking out among the waves. they were far away, and all i could make out was a dark silhouette, but before i could say anything, a wave crashed and it dissapeared. creepy!]
